Is the Pope a Heretic? Does a bear live in a New York City apartment?
Most people would consider both answers obvious - as obvious as the answers to a pair of questions often used as synonyms for emphatic agreement.
Yet you might find someone who would define the bear enclosure of the Bronx Zoo as an apartment. And you could find people who said the man usually referred to as the Pope is a heretic.
Some traditional Catholics don't merely reject the conclusions of the Second Vatican Council, but claim that those who accept them are heretics, and state that since a heretic cannot be Pope, the man Roman Catholics and most others call the Pope is not.
Those who alse claim another Pope has been elected are called Conclavists. I'm going to try and interview one by e-mail, a man who says he is the true Pope.
Even non Christians may find this a case of laughable delusion, which can offer us much food for thought. If you don't believe in the Roman Catholic church, what separates two people calling themselves Pope besides the number of their followers?
